WELCOME TO PADDY’S KITCHEN

When I married and came to Bangalore, it was a real ‘Pensioners’ Paradise.’  The climate was as today’s generation would say – ‘Awesome’. It was cool and pleasant throughout the year. My parents cautioned me to keep warm and have given me the loveliest Kashmir shawls, which I treasure to this day.

Since I could not distinguish between rice and dal, cooking was an uphill task. Looking back, I have come a long way now… Cooking for me has metamorphosed from a daily routine of making edible and nutritious food for my family to an exciting journey of creativity by experimenting with different flavors and ingredients.

To me, food is not only for nourishment and sustenance. Its taste and flavors take us back to our good times too. Food is nostalgia and comfort. It brings home our culture. Food is a treat and nourishment for the soul too.

I dedicate this blog to my parents, who instilled in me a strong sense of ethics and discipline, and whose affection, love and support gives me strength in this journey of life.

I feel the need of today’s generation, who come away from their homes and crave for home cooked food. To you too, I dedicate this blog, where I will share the recipes that I have learnt and grown to love over the years.

  4. Amme, your blog looks superb. Your explanation is crisp and clear and the photographs are very inviting.

    It is very evident that a lot of hard work has gone into it. I always thought of you as a great cook and hoped to get your recipes, but this blog offers so much more than that… it is a window to your wisdom from experience… Thank you for this blog! It is one of your most valuable gifts to us… 🙂

  5. Dear Vama,
    It’s been quite some time since I first visited your blog and have visited it many times since. However, I never got round to giving you any feedback on it.
    I was literally blown away by the presentation style and your crip and lucid language! The ‘icing on the cake’ – since it’s all about food here – were the pictures.
    Your reminisces took me back to Kollam and Krishna Nivas.
    To sum it up – a great blog! Have bookmarked it and will visit often. Have asked Devi to start making the dishes one by one starting immediately!
    Will keep commenting as and when things come up.

  13. I have got 1 suggestion for your site. It looks like at this time there are a few cascading stylesheet problems when launching a selection of webpages inside google chrome as well as opera. It is functioning alright in internet explorer. Perhaps you can double check that.

  16. Hi Paddy, it is one awesome blog for foodies loving it traditional and cravers for home cooked food (it’s a real agonizing craving). The thing I loved the most about your blog is its language…it in itself is so nourishing.

    And yes one more thing….about “To the innumerable people who ask me,” What do you do the entire day?” – I am genuinely puzzled; I am sure about one thing though – I don’t have a minute to spare.” I am sure about that too 🙂 coz my mum is really one multitasking machine dollying entire family singlehandedly.

    Looking for some great traditional recipes here…Thanks a lot

  21. My dear sister, it gladdens my heart to see,
    That your blog is interesting , so let it be;
    The copious quantities of delicious mutton curry that you served me,
    Unmindful of the irregular hours I kept with glee;
    The soup which I relish;
    You doled out without so much as a blemish;
    Miss you as much as your dishes,
    Special as you are,you always have my best wishes.
